Infrastructure Modernisation Healthcare

Centralising IT operations for a multi-site healthcare provider

The client operated five healthcare facilities, each managing its own IT infrastructure independently. This created significant operational problems: patient data was stored in separate, incompatible systems; security policies varied by site; and when a system failed at any location, the local team was left to manage recovery without central support.

Downtime incidents were averaging three to four per month across the network. Each incident required on-site intervention, meaning a minimum two-hour response time for facilities outside the city centre. Staff had developed workarounds — including manual data entry and paper-based fallbacks — that introduced additional errors and compliance risks.

NKompass began with a four-week discovery and audit phase across all five sites, documenting the current infrastructure, identifying interdependencies, and assessing the security posture at each location. The findings informed a centralised cloud architecture designed specifically for the reliability and data-sovereignty requirements of healthcare operations in Nigeria.

Implementation was phased by site to avoid operational disruption. Each site was migrated to the central infrastructure over a two-week window, with a parallel-run period to validate data integrity before the legacy systems were decommissioned. NKompass provided on-site support at each site during its migration window.

Network connectivity between sites was upgraded and made redundant, with automatic failover to secondary connections. Centralised monitoring was deployed with alerting thresholds configured to the operational context of each facility.

Within 90 days of the final site migration, the network had experienced zero unplanned downtime incidents — compared to an average of three to four per month prior to the engagement. Reporting processes that previously required manual data consolidation across five separate systems were reduced from a multi-day process to same-day automated generation.

Staff across all five sites now operate within a unified, monitored environment. Security incidents are identified centrally and resolved without requiring on-site intervention in the majority of cases. The client's IT management overhead has been reduced significantly, with the central IT team now able to support all five sites from a single location.

Before this project, every IT problem at one of our sites became an all-hands situation. Now our central team manages everything from one place, and most issues are resolved before clinical staff are even aware of them.
